In St Helens Borough, we have a zero tolerance of all forms of domestic abuse.
In the UK, it is estimated that a woman is killed by a man every three days. Additionally, men can also be victims of domestic abuse.
Lives, including those of children, are made miserable and destroyed by this blight on our communities.
What is Domestic Abuse?
Domestic Abuse is 'any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are in couple relationships or between family members and can include:
- Physical abuse: Hitting, slapping, or restricting freedom of movement.
- Sexual abuse: Forcing or pressuring someone into sexual activity without consent.
- Psychological or emotional abuse: Verbal abuse, intimidation, humiliation, or other actions
- Harming mental well-being.
- Controlling or coercive behaviour: Acts designed to make a person dependent or subordinate,
- Isolating them from support, controlling finances, social interactions, or daily life.
- Economic abuse: Behaviour that adversely affects a person's ability to acquire, use, or maintain money, property, or access goods and services.
