Council Leader Councillor Anthony Burns, who was reselected as Leader at the Annual Council meeting today, Wednesday, set out a redesigned Cabinet that will focus on the key priorities for St Helens Borough.

This year the Deputy Leader role will be shared for the first time with Councillor Martin Bond as Deputy Leader for Peoples and Civic and Councillor Kate Groucutt Deputy Leader for Place and Growth.

Councillor Burns said: "I'm incredibly proud of the work Cabinet has done as a collective to bring strong leadership and drive to the work that this council has done to make a difference to our residents' lives. We've seen that this work has been externally validated by the likes of Ofsted, Care Quality Commission and the Local Government Association who have all found our services are good. There are also clear signs now showing across the borough of the years of hard work bringing progress such as the works starting in St Helens town centre as we move to delivery of a regeneration scheme that will bring new vibrancy to the area.

"These small changes to the make up of the Cabinet come to support our focus on delivering inclusive growth, safe and strong communities, giving children the best start in life, helping people live healthy, happy lives, providing services that matter to residents and recognising our heritage. This is the key to our Cabinet and our council which is here to be with you, for you."
