Church service to commemorate fifth anniversary of COVID-19 pandemic
St Helens Borough Council, in partnership with St Helens Parish Church and Halton and St Helens Voluntary Community Action, is hosting a special church service next month (March) to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Article date: 28 February 2025
Open to the public, the service will reflect on the profound impact COVID-19 had on local communities across the borough, honour the loved ones lost, and highlight the strength and unity demonstrated during those challenging years.
The service will also include a time of remembrance and reflection, allowing people the opportunity to share personal stories; highlight the collaborative work of St Helens Together during the pandemic and celebrate the community's response in supporting each other - while looking to the future, with messages of hope and renewal.
Encouraging residents affected by COVID-19 to attend, Mayor of St Helens Borough, Councillor Jeanette Banks, said:
"The fifth anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic marks a pivotal moment for reflection in our community. This service offers us the opportunity to come together in remembrance of those we have lost, to applaud the resilience of our residents, and to reflect on the extraordinary efforts made by everyone to support each other through this crisis.
"As we move forward, we stand united, committed to building a stronger, more compassionate future for all in St Helens Borough."
Rev Rachel Shuttleworth, vicar of St Helens Parish Church, said: "We were all affected by Covid-19 and the enormous changes it brought to all our lives. This service gives us all the opportunity to stop, remember and reflect on what we lost and what we learned during that time."
The service will take place in St Helens Parish Church on Sunday 9 March from 12:30pm-2:30pm, with light refreshments served.
