New Tree Planting

St Helens Borough has again joined towns and cities across the North of England in creating a new Northern Forest, where 50 million new trees are to be planted. 

Phase 2 of the Grow Back Greener programme being led by the Woodland Trust in partnership with regional trusts, including The Mersey Forest has now been completed. 

Following on from the successful delivery of phase 1 of the funding programme, St Helens Borough Council was granted additional funding to plant a further 169 heavy standard trees (roughly 3m in height) and an additional 5,573 smaller trees during the 2024 / 2025 planting season. 

The planting was carried out during the ideal planting season - typically November to March when the tree roots are in a dormant state.
