Nuisance Behaviour

What is considered nuisance behaviour?

Nuisance behaviour includes actions that cause harm, distress, or inconvenience to others. This can include anti-social fires in parks, off-road vehicle use, loud noise, and neighbour disputes. It often disrupts the peace and safety of the community.

What should I do if I see someone starting an anti-social fire in a park or open space?

If you witness an anti-social fire being started in a public area, contact the emergency services immediately by calling 999.

How do I report off-road vehicles causing nuisance?

If off-road vehicles are causing a disturbance where you live, report it to Merseyside Police on 101. If you witness the vehicles in action, call 999 so the Police can respond immediately.

You can also contact the local Community Safety Team through the Council Contact Centre at 01744 676789. Please provide details such as the vehicle type, location, time of the nuisance, or where the vehicle is being kept.

How can I resolve a neighbour dispute?

If you're having a dispute with a neighbour, try to resolve the issue through calm communication. If the dispute escalates or is ongoing, you can seek mediation services or contact the local council or Community Safety Team for support. We can offer advice and help you understand your legal options.

What can I do if my neighbour is making excessive noise?

If you are being disturbed by excessive noise from a neighbour (e.g., loud music, parties, or construction work), try speaking to them politely to see if the issue can be resolved. If the noise persists, contact the Council's Environmental Health Team or the police. Both have powers to tackle the issue.

What is the definition of "anti-social behaviour" in terms of public nuisance?

Anti-social behaviour refers to actions that cause harm, alarm, or distress to others. This includes things like vandalism, excessive noise, dangerous driving, illegal bonfires, and any other activities that disrupt the peace of the community.

How do I know if a fire in a park is illegal?

A fire in a public space becomes illegal if it's started without permission, is unsafe, or poses a risk to people or the environment. If you notice any suspicious or unsafe fires, report it immediately to 999.

Can I stop someone from using off-road vehicles in public spaces?

If off-road vehicles are causing a disturbance where you live, report it to Merseyside Police on 101. If you witness the vehicles in action, call 999 so the Police can respond immediately.

You can also contact the local Community Safety Team through the Council Contact Centre at 01744 676789. Please provide details such as the vehicle type, location, time of the nuisance, or where the vehicle is being kept.

What can I do if I feel unsafe or threatened by nuisance behaviour?

If you feel in danger, call the police immediately on 999.

For non-emergencies, call the non-emergency number on 101, use their online reporting form: Report a crime | Merseyside Police or via social media @MerseyPolice
