Child Car Seats

The safest way for babies, children and young people to travel in vehicles is in a child car seat that is suitable for their weight, height and age, and is correctly fitted in the vehicle.

The Road Safety Team actively promote in car safety and offer a FREE child car seat checking service to anyone living, studying or working in St Helens.

The law states that all children up to 135cm tall (around 4'5"), or the age of 12, whichever comes first, must travel in the correct child restraint for their height and weight with very few exceptions. After this they must use an adult seat belt. There are very few exceptions.
