Transition to Primary School

Are you and your child ready for school?

Would you and your child benefit from some practical
School, Children's Centres, Home Start, Early Years Hub
information and support before they start school?
Support your child to get ready for school,
encouraging their play skills, learning and development.
The Ready for School programme has been designed in conjunction with Children’s Centre’s to help you and your child(ren) get ready for the important first steps of going to school. You might want help with one, two or all of the steps below so that your child can:
• Play and share with other children
• Recognise their own name
• Understand simple hygiene
• Dress and put on shoes
• Arrive at school on time
• Eat and drink unaided
• Cope away from you
• Use the toilet
Specially trained Home-Start St Helens volunteers can provide carefully chosen books, toys and learning activities which will help you to:
• Engage with your child’s early learning
• Establish good bedtime and morning routines
• Support you to use positive reinforcement and praise
• Create a positive home learning environment
Support from Home-Start is free and confidential; your volunteer will provide one hour of virtual support via WhatsApp or Zoom, to you and your children and will respect your privacy.
If you would like to take part in the programme please ask your School, Nursery, Health Visitor or Keyworker to complete a St Helens Children’s Centre Service Request form.
