Register of Educational Establishments

EduBase is a register of educational establishments in England and Wales, maintained by the Department for Education. It provides information on establishments providing compulsory, higher and further education.

To Access EduBase follow the instructions below:

  • Access EduBase
  • Using the 'Advanced Search' - available from the menu on the left 
  • Enter your postcode
  • The distance from your postcode
  • Select the types of establishments you would like to come back from your search
  • Select whether you want just those who are open to appear
  • Select any other applicable criteria
  • Click on Search

Search Results

Results will display in alphabetical order based on the name of the establishment.
The name of the Local Authority and town in which the establishment is located will also appear

To view the details of the establishment:

  • Click on the name of the establishment
  • You will be presented with a set of 'tabs' representing categories of information relating to the set up of the establishment.
  • Click on the tabs to see the information required.

SEN Characteristics

One of the tabs relates to 'SEN Charateristics'

This section will give you information around the priorities dealt with, if at all, by the establishment.
You will also be able to see if the establishment has been accepted onto the Approved List - Section 41††

††Section 41 of the Children and Families Act 2014 allows the Secretary of State by order to publish a list of approved independent educational institutions, independent special schools and post-16 institutions for the purposes of satisfying Section 38 (Preparation of an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan by local authorities) of the Act. Institutions can only be included on the list with their consent.
