Childcare Sufficiency Assessment

learning and schooling written on a black board

The Childcare Act 2006 placed duties on all local authorities to secure sufficient childcare (so far as reasonably practicable) for working parents, or parents who are studying or training for employment.

Childcare sufficiency is more than just making sure there is enough childcare. It is also about making sure that the childcare is available, accessible, affordable and of good quality.

The Children and Families Act 2014 requires that a report be prepared for elected council members on how they are meeting their duty to secure sufficient childcare.

St Helens 2019 Childcare Sufficiency Report summarises the key priorities and gives an overview of the local childcare market as well as the demand for childcare in the borough.
