Garden waste collection service to return

The garden waste collection service is set to return from Monday 15 June.

The current 2019/20 subscription was due to end on Friday 29 May, but has been extended until Friday 28 August to make up for the collections missed while the service was suspended.

To find out your collection dates, visit www.sthelens.gov.uk/collections and enter your postcode and house number.

The new 2020/21 subscription period will then start on Monday 31 August.

Residents don’t need to renew or subscribe for the 2020/21 period at this time, and no payment will be taken.

Full details about the 2020/21 subscription will follow soon.

The council is now charging for the collection of your garden waste. There will be a charge of £32 per year for each green bin if you sign up online, or £37 if you sign up by phone with a debit/credit card.

Your subscription means that you’ll receive a fortnightly collection service between 3rd June 2019 and 31st May 2020. Once you’ve subscribed, we will send you a permit to stick on your green bin(s).

  • If you subscribe part way through the subscription year, the charge will remain at £32 if paid online and £37 if you sign up by phone. We’ll aim to start collecting your green bin within two weeks of your subscription. If you’ve ordered a replacement and/or additional bins, we’ll aim to deliver these to your property within two weeks.
  • If you move house part way through the subscription year, you will not be entitled to a refund. However, you will be able to transfer your subscription(s) to a new address in St Helens.

If you choose not to subscribe, your garden waste will no longer be collected.

2019/20 subscriptions are now closed.

Subscriptions are suspended until the next collection period starts on Monday 31st August. Residents will be able to subscribe for the 2020/21 permit from mid-July onwards.

Garden waste can be taken to any one of the Waste Reception Centres located in the borough.

Another way of managing garden waste is to compost. For further information please go to https://www.sthelens.gov.uk/recycling-rubbish-waste/composting-information-and-advice/
