Food and Nutrition

The Healthy Living Community Food Team run a number of food and nutrition sessions across St Helens for children, young people, parents, carers and adults. Please see below for information about the different classes, as well as links to NHS Choices and Change4Life Be Food Smart.




In the Cook and Taste sessions, you can learn about:

  • Basic cooking skills
  • Cooking on a budget
  • Creating healthier meals
  • Menu planning


These programmes are aimed at all parents and carers and families and only last 4 weeks for 60 minutes a week!

These classes are for children aged 2-6 and their families. In these classes, you can:

  • Learn about different fruit and vegetables and how they grow
  • Receive healthy lifestyle information
  • Take part in activities such as planting and food art

Tempting Tots

Fun sessions with the Community Activity Coaches for children aged 2-6 and their families. The sessions include:

  • Tasting session with food art
  • Information about healthy lifestyle choices

Fit4Life Early Years

A fun, free 4 week healthy lifestyle programme for children aged 2-6 and their families. The programme covers:

  • Healthy eating
  • Active play
  • Positive wellbeing
  • Healthy snack ideas

Fit4Life

Fit4Life

The Community Food Team together with the Saints Community Sport Coaches run the Fit4Life 4 week programme for schools in St Helens.

The programme includes nutrition and physical activity sessions.

When choosing snacks for the kids look for 100 calorie snacks two a day maxA NEW Change4Life campaign has launched, encouraging parents to choose healthier snacks for their children. The campaign's key message is "Look for 100 calorie snacks, 2 a day max" to help cut children's sugar intake.
