Dementia Support

There are a number of support services in St Helens for those with dementia and carers:

  • Hargreaves Dementia Trust - provides information, advice and guidance and promotes the health, wellbeing and independence of people with dementia and their carers. It also provides training for those working in direct care of people with dementia and their carers, and works alongside existing services to enhance the quality of life and experience of those living with dementia in St Helens.   • Alzheimer's Society - works with both carers and people with dementia throughout their journey by providing emotional support, information and guidance to enable people to live as independently as possible. For more information, please call 0151 420 8010.
  • Carers' Centre - provides emotional support, dementia awareness training, a dementia carers' support group and dementia carer cards (a pocket-size card that allows you to inform someone that the person with you has dementia).   • Age UK - provides an advisory service and peer group support. For more information, please call 01744 752 644.

Reading Well Books on Prescription

All St Helens Libraries offer the Reading Well Books on Prescription for Dementia Scheme to those with dementia, their carers or to people who want to find out a bit more about the condition or who are worried about symptoms. The scheme includes a range of books providing information and advice about dementia as well as personal stories. Download the full list of books available through the Dementia Books on Prescription Scheme

Your GP or health professional may prescribe a book for you or you can loan it free of charge from your local library.

Please note: In order to borrow a book from the library, you will need to be a member. It's free to join, all you need to do is complete the membership form and take it along to your local library. You will need to provide 2 forms of ID to complete the membership.
