High blood pressure, sometimes called 'hypertension', can put you at risk of having health problems such as heart disease or a stroke. High blood pressure doesn't really have symptoms, so a lot of people are unaware they have it, in St Helens it is estimated that there are around 18,000 people who have high blood pressure and don't know about it. That's why it's really important to get your blood pressure checked. Here's how you can get your blood pressure checked:
Health Trainers from the Healthy Living Team offer FREE health checks to anyone in St Helens aged 16 and over. The health check includes a blood pressure check amongst other measurements such as height, weight, BMI, cholesterol and diabetes testing. Call Healthy Living on 0300 300 0103 to book your FREE health check.
If you're aged 40-74, you are also eligible for a FREE NHS Health Check through your GP. This also includes a blood pressure check and questions about your general health, lifestyle and family history. You will be invited for an NHS Health Check once every 5 years by your GP. Contact your GP to make an appointment.
