Oral Health

The Oral Health Improvement Service (part of the Healthy Living Team) in St Helens provides support and advice to the community. Some of the programmes that the service delivers across St Helens include:

  • Supervised tooth brushing programme in Nursery settings and Special Schools
  • Toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste packs to all St Helens Primary School Children
  • Support Health Visitor assessment clinics with child oral health packs and oral health family support
  • Training for Early Years staff, Health Visiting teams, school health teams, school staff, dental staff, nursing and care staff, carers of vulnerable groups and other health professionals
  • Provide educational resource loan box for schools, nurseries and colleges to access and deliver consistent and current oral health information to their groups
  • Work with local dental teams to promote oral health within their practices
  • The Oral Health staff attend and support a number of local and national campaigns and community based events throughout the year


Cuthbert Croc-O-Smile is our friendly crocodile who promotes healthy teeth & gums and makes sure we all work towards a bright, white smile!

All community members, health professionals, Early Years staff, school health advisors, teachers, nursing and care home staff, Public Health teams, Local Authorities and other external agencies can contact the service for support or advice on any aspect of oral health.

St Helens service providers can contact the Oral Health Team about the programmes they deliver or to arrange training sessions which are offered in Early Years settings, Children's Centres, Adult Supported Learning establishments, Nursing and Care Homes, Schools, Clinics and other community-based locations.

The service also has a selection of resources which are available on a free loan basis to promote good oral health across the community.
