Article date - 13 October 2021

This ‘Get Online Week’ St Helens Borough Council services will be delivering a number of courses and workshops to support anyone wanting to improve their digital skills.
Get Online Week

Running from 18-24 October, Get Online Week is the UK’s biggest digital inclusion campaign which sees thousands of activities, hosted by local community organisations, take place each year.

As part of St Helens Borough Council’s programme of events, St Helens Adult and Community Learning will be holding free digital skills classes, from courses for complete beginners wanting help using a computer or tablet device - to workshops to improve current skills, searching online, or help creating a CV.

Meanwhile, St Helens Library Service will be hosting drop-in get online sessions in libraries across the borough where residents can receive support downloading e-books and other reading material – as well as after school coding classes for kids. Online events, such as the much-loved Read and Rhyme time, are also likely to prove popular.

Councillor Kate Groucutt, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Business said:

“A lack of digital skills and access can make it more difficult to use services and keep in touch with friends and family. If the last two years have taught us anything, it's how vital digital skills are to our wellbeing at a time when face-to-face contact is restricted.

“Everyone deserves the opportunity to safely participate in the digital world and seize the opportunities it provides, and our friendly team can help give you the skills and confidence to get started .”

St Helens Adult and Community Learning will be at the United Reformed Church in St Helens town centre from 12:30pm-2:30pm on Wednesday 20 October for a drop-in event where residents can find out more about the courses they offer.

For course enquiries, you can also call 01744 676671 or 01744 677328.
