Motorists are advised that a full closure will be in place at Sherdley Road east from Sherdley Roundabout this weekend to facilitate a major highway improvement scheme.

The closure, from 13-14 March, is to allow the continuation of ongoing junction works as part of the A570 Sherdley Roundabout scheme.

A full, clearly marked diversion will in place and business access will be maintained, with motorists encouraged to allow extra time when planning journeys to avoid delays.
Then from 18-23 March, four nights of overnight closures will be required in the following areas to facilitate carriageway resurfacing works:
Thursday 18th March - Full closure of the roundabout and approaches to enable the planing and laying of the roundabout.
Friday 19th March - Full closure of Sherdley Road, Scorecross and Linkway, southbound
Monday 22nd March - Full closure of Linkway north and south inbound, access only to Burtonhead Road via retail park.
Tuesday 23rd March - closure of Linkway north and south outbound and closure of Burtonhead Road
The A570 Sherdley Roundabout scheme started in February last year to install pedestrian and cyclists crossing facilities at one of the busiest junctions around St Helens Town Centre.
Funded by the Local Growth Fund, awarded to the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and invested through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund – the scheme will bring a number of benefits in the vicinity of the A570 Sherdley roundabout, including:

As part of the scheme, roads and footways in the area will be resurfaced and street lighting and signage will be upgraded – while a reduced speed limit of 30mph will be introduced on all approaches to the roundabout to improve safety.
This is the third and final element of the A570/Linkway Improvements schemes.
The whole project is expected to be completed this Spring.
