As part of the day’s celebrations, children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and take part in a range of activities taking place through the Library Service’s Facebook page from 11:00am, including:

By answering a few questions about the types of books their child likes, parents and carers signed-up to the Library Service can call 01744 677081 and staff will select a bundle of books available for loan which can be collected, contact free, from Chester Lane Library as part of the click and collect offer.

World Book Day craft packs for early years and primary school-aged children will also be available to collect from Monday 1 March, free of charge from Chester Lane Library, allowing children to follow the online activities, step by step.

Councillor Anthony Burns, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Culture & Heritage, said:

“World Book Day helps young people to discover the pleasure of reading which has so many benefits – it’s calming, a form of escapism, broadens children’s vocabulary, and can also help children get a good night’s sleep.

"This year more than ever, we’d encourage parents and carers to join us in celebrating World Book Day with their child by taking part in these fantastic, creative sessions – and sharing stories together.”

Thousands of books can also be accessed using St Helens Libraries eServices. Digital content including e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and e-comics are available to access - free - 24/7 using a library card. Go to: https://sthlibrarieswp.koha-ptfs.co.uk/
