Councillor David Baines hailed the resilience and community spirit which has been vital to the council’s response to the need for help.

From donations of PPE, food and funding for St Helens Together St Helens Borough’s many businesses have stepped up to support the communities they are based in.

Councillor Baines said: “St Helens Borough is fortunate to have businesses that value and connect closely to the communities they are based in. Many have been hugely affected by the restrictions in place to help tackle the spread of coronavirus. Despite this they have put first the people who are in need of support by volunteering their time, resources and support and helped to bring the community together. Their actions during these unprecedented times have played a crucial part in protecting our most vulnerable people.

"Our businesses, community groups and residents have also been incredible in raising more than £70,000 towards St Helens Together but with four days to go there is still £8,000 needed to reach the target.

“I want to say a huge thank you for your support on behalf of St Helens Council, we are so grateful for the help you have given to the people of our borough. They will forever be thankful for your time, dedication and care that has meant that families have food on the table, medication or even just a chance to chat to someone.”
