The 'Arranging a funeral?' leaflet aims to provide help and advice - from registering a death to arranging a funeral in the United Kingdom - and lists useful contact details where residents can get more information to support them with costs, choosing a funeral director – and even advice on arranging a funeral themselves.
St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Green, Smart and Sustainable Borough, Councillor Terry Shields, said: “The death of a loved one is a painful loss. As many families know very little about arranging funerals, so many questions begin to go through your mind and the prospect of arranging a funeral almost seems like an impossible task.
“That’s why we’ve come together with Citizens Advice St Helens to help take the strain off families by producing this leaflet to answer the questions people may not know the answers to, and help them plan the most fitting funeral possible for their loved one.”
Kath Inkpen from Citizens Advice St Helens added: “We were happy to take part in working with the council's Bereavement Services team to help produce this leaflet to help local residents during the devastating loss of a loved one.
“Many clients visit us asking for help when organising a funeral, so this leaflet gives valuable advice about what to do when faced with such a situation and lists useful contact details and where to get more information”.
The leaflet is available to download and free to collect from the cemetery and crematorium office at St Helens Crematorium in Rainford Road - as well as public libraries and buildings within the borough.
