2018 Boundary Review proposals published

Article date - 01 November 2017

The UK Parliament has called for a Boundary Review to reduce the number of constituencies, and therefore MPs, from 650 to 600. In England, the number of constituencies will reduce from 533 to 501.

The second principle of the review is to equalise the total electorate in each constituency, due to substantial variation across the country, by revising boundaries where necessary.

The Boundary Commission for England is tasked with this work, and has published its revised proposals for new constituency boundaries.

The revised boundaries do not affect either of St Helens’ two constituencies.

An eight-week public consultation period is underway and will run until 11 December 2017. This will be the final time the public will get a chance to give the Commission their views on the latest proposals before the recommendations are reported to Parliament in September 2018.
