Speaking out ahead of the anniversary on 16 June, Jo’s husband Brendan Cox has called on communities and neighbours to come together to celebrate unity by holding events such as street parties, picnics, shared barbecues and community bake offs, on the weekend of 17 and 18 June – in a bid to build one of the UK’s biggest ever community events.
In a letter to community leaders nationwide, Brendan Cox expressed his plans to mark the anniversary by encouraging people from all walks of life to come together in their local community for what would be a clear message that ‘there is more that unites us than divides us.’
St Helens will play its part, with the Friends of Victoria Park group inviting families to pack a picnic and join in on a Victorian picnic in Victoria Park.
Taking place on Saturday 17 June, 'The Great Get Together - Friends of Victoria Park Victorian Picnic' event will run from 2pm to 4pm, with activities and entertainment such as cake decorating, traditional games, and live music from Greenall’s brass band on offer for all the family to enjoy.
Alcohol is prohibited for this event.
