Newton Town Show gearing up for the best year yet

Article date - 28 July 2017

Organisers are putting the finishing touches to a packed programme of events for this year’s Newton Town Show (Saturday 5 August, 11am-5pm), which is set to be the biggest and best yet.

Held annually in Newton-le-Willows’ Mesnes Park, the family friendly show attracts hundreds of people from across the borough and beyond.

Highlights of this year’s event include a motorbike display team, ferret racing, acoustic music from the Davies Sisters, Morris dancing and thrilling helicopter tours of the town, alongside food and craft stalls and fun fair amusements, and the traditional tug o’ war – a hard-fought contest every year.

There’s also a military theme, with firing displays by Royal Artillery 103 Regiment, a First World War battle re-enactment, and the Royal Logistic Corps Silver Star parachute display team will be diving in at 1pm – arrive early to get a good spot for this thrilling spectacle!

As before, the event will see dozens of classic car lovers show off their motors. If you have a vintage vehicle you want to display, simply arrive at Mesnes Park off Park Road North before 11am on the day.

Event-goers can arrive in vintage style, with a free classic bus service to and from Earlestown throughout the day, courtesy of the North West Museum of Road Transport.

Proceeds from the show – organised by the Newton and Earlestown Community Group (NECG) – go towards future community events.

The Newton Town Show always needs more stewards to make the day a great experience for everyone. Email secretary@necg.org.uk for more information on volunteering.

For a chance to win a helicopter tour of Newton-le-Willows, and a host of other prizes, go to www.newtontownshow.com and enter the £2 raffle draw.

Newton Ward Councillor and Chairman of the NECG Organising Committee, Seve Gomez-Aspron, said: “It's set to be another fantastic year at the 2017 Newton Town Show with loads to see and do, and I have to thank the local businesses like THINK! Estate Agents, Starbank Panels and many others who have helped to sponsor the show this year.

“The profits from the show are put into future community events organised by the NECG and I’d like to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work – the show couldn’t be the success it is without them!”
