Brownies Discover Award

With support from St Helens Libraries Service through the award winning Cultural Hubs Arts in Libraries programme - funded by Arts Council England - a group of Brownies have become the first Brownie group in St Helens to achieve the Discover Arts Award.

To achieve this award, members of the 2nd Rainhill Brownies Unit spent around 20 hours discovering the arts around them and finding out about artists and their work. They took part in special activities such as Easter crafts and a poetry session - and as part of the experience, shared their work with others.

After presenting the group with their certificates at a ceremony held in Rainhill Library, St Helens Council’s Head of Libraries Service Sue Williamson said:

“The Arts Award Discover programme is really easy to organise and is an amazing opportunity for young children to take part in the arts. There are opportunities for older children and young people to get involved through the Explore, Bronze and Silver Arts Awards, all available through our libraries.

“I’d like to congratulate all of the girls on their achievement. The Discover award provides a great introduction to the world of arts.”

Arts Award levels Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver are available to complete in libraries across St Helens, and St Helens Libraries Service is offering young people the opportunity to get involved by completing a portfolio.
