Best place to find information and services that your council provides...
On Thursday 2 May 2019, residents in St Helens will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them at a local level.
Local government elections select councillors, who are responsible for making decisions on running services in your local area. These include Education, Children's and Adults' Social Care, Refuse Collection and Recycling, Planning, Highways, Consumer Protection, Libraries, Public Health, Parks and Recreation facilities.
St Helens Council are urging residents who have not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered in time. If you were eligible to vote in last year’s general election and your details have not changed, you will still be registered to vote.
The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Friday 12 April. Anyone can apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote. It takes just five minutes. If in doubt, check your details by giving us a call on 01744 676464 or email email@example.com.
Poll cards will start to be delivered across St Helens from Friday 22 March; these will include information on the location of your polling station. If you prefer to vote by post, the deadline to return a postal vote application form is Monday 15 April at 5pm.
If you would like to stand as a Candidate in the Local or Parish Elections, the deadline to submit nomination papers is Wednesday 3 April at 4pm. A Candidates and Agents' briefing will be held on Thursday 21 March at 4.30pm in St Helens Town Hall, for anyone who is interested in standing at the May election.
