Funding

Are you or your family in receipt of a means-tested benefit? If so, you may qualify for discounted use of the council's sports facilities.

Are you a talented sports person? If so, the council offer free use of some facilities for training purposes.

If you are a sports club, the Sports Development Team have a strong knowledge of funding streams available to you and a vast amount of experience of writing successful funding bids for sports projects. Since 2010, the team have successfully supported over 100 bids from clubs and organisations securing over £5 million of funding for community sport.

Sport England have launched a number of initiatives to encourage people to be more active, including the Community Asset Fund dedicated to enhancing the spaces in your local community. The Small Grants Fund uses National Lottery funding to make awards of between £300 and £10,000 to not-for-profit organisations to help more people play sport.

Priorities for Merseyside include:

  • Projects delivering on disability projects and increasing female participation
  • Projects involving the Further Education/Higher Education sector

Pastime Keycard and Gold Card for Talented Athletes

St Helens Council coordinates two discount schemes for leisure centre access, making it easier for you to keep fit and healthy.

If you get means-tested benefits, or you're on a low income, you might be eligible for a Pastime Keycard. For more information, please call into your local leisure centre or telephone 01744 671726.

If you're in the top six athletes nationally within your sport, and live in St Helens, you might be eligible for a Gold Card. For more information on this service, please call the Sports Development team on 01744 675400 or download the application forms above.
