The School Games provide a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport.
The School Games provides a pathway for young people to progress and develop in the following ways;
For many young people sporting competition is first experienced through intra-house teams or in PE lessons. Level 1 of the School Games will build on a school’s existing work to offer pupils a year-round programme of regular intra-school competition in a number of sports.
At this stage individuals will be selected to represent their school in local inter-school competitions. These will take place throughout the school year Schools will have the flexibility to decide which sports to enter but are encouraged to involve as many pupils as possible. Sports delivered at Level 2 of the school games should follow the formats as designed by the National Governing Bodies of Sport. Winning schools will represent St Helens at Level 3 events.
Merseyside hosts a multi-sport showcase event as a culmination of the year-round programme of competition between schools. This is the ultimate sports day with hundreds of pupils from across Merseyside taking part.
