The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has been successful in securing funding for its most vulnerable and workless residents from the European Social Fund and youth Employment Initiative.
The St Helens ESF Ways to Work Programme, valued at £4.9million, will support local people into work through job search, coaching and mentoring, paid work experience, training and skills development, and information, advice, and guidance.
Ways to Work is a local programme for young people and adults, designed to improve personal resilience and progress to sustainable employment. Incorporating our existing successful Youth Employment Gateway (YEG), workless and inactive people, including those furthest from the labour market, will access a suite of individually tailored products which will add value to mainstream provision, respond to employer needs and yield better outcomes. High quality Information, Advice and Guidance and skills development are essential components of our offer, anchored by needs-led assessment, conducted by experienced mentors in this flexible support system.
The Programme will engage with over 2000 individuals from St Helens, providing individualised and needs-led support, with the overall aim being to support around 800 people into sustainable employment.
The Ways to Work programme will work with people to help them into work through additional advice, work placements and targeted training. There will also be initiatives to specifically support young people leaving care, and other vulnerable groups and people who are out of work with a health condition. This provides a positive impact on our local communities and valuable work experience to those who would benefit most.
