FAQs - post-dated passports

Please read these frequently asked questions from HM Passport Office. All correspondence must be made with the relevant passport office.

  1. I have received my new passport with my new name. I planned to use it to travel for my honeymoon after my marriage ceremony, which has now been cancelled/postponed due to COVID-19. Will you issue a free replacement post-dated passport? How long do I have to reapply?

The new passport will not be valid because it is not in your current name. You must it send back to us for destruction. You can choose to receive a free replacement passport in your current name or a free replacement in your new name, post-dated to the date of your rearranged ceremony.

  2. I have applied for a passport in my new name. I planned to use it to travel for my honeymoon after my marriage ceremony, which has now been cancelled/postponed due to COVID-19. Can the passport now be issued in my current name? Can I withdraw my application and be refunded?

Your passport can be issued in your current name or your passport can be issued in your future name, post-dated to the date of your rearranged ceremony. You can also put your application on hold and reapply for free when you have rearranged your ceremony.

  3. Can I use my post-dated passport if I don’t get married due to cancellations around COVID-19?

The new passport will not be valid because it is not in your current name. You must it send back to us for destruction. You can choose to receive a free replacement passport in your current name or a free replacement in your new name, post-dated to the date of your rearranged ceremony.
