Housing Options and Advice

In line with the most recent government guidance, we are no longer conducting face-to face appointments at our office in the Millennium Centre.

Any appointments made for you will be conducted over the telephone by staff working remotely. However, we are still here to offer advice and support.

If you are homeless today and have nowhere to stay tonight, or have been given notice to vacate your current accommodation, you can still access our service in the following ways:

  • Between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (not including public holidays), you can contact us on our Freephone number 0808 196 3659. You can dial this number from any phone and any public payphone without charge.

Alternatively, you can call the numbers below but there will be a charge for these calls and you will need credit on a mobile phone:

  • Between 9am and 1pm, phone 01744 675150.
  • Between 1pm and 5pm, phone 07926 076458.

We will assess your situation and advise accordingly.

Alternatively, you can email us for advice at housingadvice+options@sthelens.gov.uk.

If you find yourself homeless outside of these times or at weekends or public holidays, you can contact the Emergency Duty Team on 0845 050 0148 and they will assess your situation.

If you have an ongoing case being dealt with, you can contact your caseworker on the number given to you at initial interview or by email.

If you are a landlord or tenant and are concerned about what procedures need to be followed to issue/enforce a notice during the pandemic, you can access further detailed government guidance at www.gov.uk/coronavirus. We urge all landlords and tenants to abide by the latest government guidance.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Home Improvement Agency

Like everyone else, we have had to change the way we work. However, we are still here for adaptations, hospital discharges, assistive technology, urgent internal home adaptations and repairs, and for advice and guidance.

Please bear with us as there may be a delay in dealing with your general enquiries and non urgent adaptation referrals. The availability of contractors to work within client homes is also restricted.

If you have adaptation works currently on hold, we will be in touch following the removal of government restrictions to advise on progressing works, subject to contractor availability.

You can contact us on 01744 676555 or homeimprovementagency@sthelens.gov.uk and for all our latest information follow us on social media: Twitter and Facebook.

Energy Efficiency / Affordable Warmth Unit and Welfare Benefit Service
