HOST (Healthier Options St Helens Takeaways)

If you own or run a takeaway business, you may have more influence over the health and well-being of your local community than you realise.


The HOST (Healthier Options St Helens Takeaways) acknowledges the small changes that you can do to your menu over time that will have a big impact on the amount of salt or fat that your customers consume.


We would like to help you change your menus slightly to reduce the amount of salt or fat in your dishes.

We appreciate that changes will take time and we would like to support you to make these changes.


It is FREE to join the award.



We would like to invite you to sign up to our pledge in which we are encouraging you to begin to reduce the amount of salt/fat in your menu.

You must have a Food Hygiene Rating of 3 or a above to take part.


We can also support you with

  • Label reading – helping you select healthier options.
  • Adapting your recipes to provide the have maximum flavour while reducing salt or fat content.
  • Help with marketing your business and the healthier options you offer.
  • Offering a nutritional analysis of your dishes and information on how to make them healthier.
  • Promotion in the local press and on our council website.
  • We are actively promoting smaller portions.
  • We offer water as part of our meal deals.
  • We are currently working towards reducing the amount of salt in our meals.


  • We are currently working towards reducing the amount of fat we use in dishes.
  • We promote our healthier cooking methods e.g. if something is oven baked.
  • We only use fruit tinned in natural fruit juice.
  • We only use tinned vegetables that come in water.
