School clothing allowance

The discretionary school clothing allowances scheme has been withdrawn with effect from 1 May 2017.

In reaching this decision, the Council has considered the responses received from a public consultation on the future of discretionary school clothing allowances which took place between 14 November 2016 to 16 January 2017. 

To address concerns that were raised as part of this consultation, the Council will work with schools and their governing bodies to encourage them to set a uniform policy which is based on low cost and easy availability. The Council will also provide support to schools to enable them to devise strategies to effectively and sensitively manage any issues that may arise.

In exceptional circumstances, support may be made available to vulnerable families experiencing severe financial hardship.  This discretionary scheme will only be available from 14th July 2017 to applicants who have exhausted all other options for accessing a school uniform.
