Great British Railways HQ - back the bid

GBR HQ main image
We're calling on everyone to get behind a bid for St Helens Borough to become the new home of Great British Railways (GBR).

GBR is the new organisation to run the railways and the government is holding a competition to provide its national home.

It intends for the headquarters to be based outside of London to support its economic levelling-up agenda, and we're one of 44 towns and cities across the country who are bidding for it.

St Helens Borough Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have submitted an expression of interest to host the headquarters in Newton-le-Willows.

The government is drawing up a shortlist to be announced in June, before a public vote will be held to give people the opportunity to show their support for their preferred location.

Why St Helens Borough? What are the benefits?

Do you back the bid?

As well as demonstrating a rich railway heritage, good connectivity, and value for money, a successful bid must also be able to show public support - so we're encouraging people across the region to back our bid.

Please get involved by taking our short survey, indicating why you think the HQ should be based in St Helens Borough.
