Why use St Helens Building Control?
The St Helens Building Control team has a vast amount of plan checking and site experience between its Building Control Surveyors. We also have a good blend of youth and experience among the inspectors. Each inspectors works on their own area of the borough, so each has a wealth of local knowledge and can advise on any aspect of the application. This section deals with varying types of application, from domestic extensions and alterations to multi million pound commercial projects.
We also have a dedicated Technical Support Team, who can offer advice on your Building Regulation application. They can advise you as to whether the work you are thinking of carrying out requires permission, the fee's that may be involved or any other aspect of Building Control.
You can contact the Building Control office on the following numbers, 01744 676242 / 6240 or 3216.

Latest News
Did you know that both St Helens Planning and Building Control departments offer a DTA service. Below is an outline of what types of project the Development Team Approach can be of benefit too and what those benefits may be.
The Development Team Approach (DTA) is a service to help developers, architects and other
development professionals through the planning and building regulation process.
The DTA will give certainty as to the level of service that can be expected and give guidance and advice on the information required prior to and during the planning and building regulatory process.
This approach is recommended, although not exclusively, for developments that involve:
- 10 or more dwellings;
- retail, commercial or industrial development with a gross floor area of 1,000m² or more;
- complex small-scale developments.
The DTA provides a co-ordinated response to your pre-planning application enquiry:
- improving channels of communication;
- minimising delays;
- ensuring consistent advice.
For further information on the DTA process, please take a look at the DTA booklet found on the documents tab on the right hand side of the page.
