Special Council marks tributes
Tributes flowed at St.Helens Council following the death of Billinge and Seneley Green ward councillor Richard Ward.
He was Councillor for Billinge and Seneley Green from 2008 and Councillor for Moss Bank Ward from 1992 to 2000.
Leading the condolences, Council Leader Marie Rimmer said that Councillor Ward was “a man ahead of his time,” adding: “he was a great politician, an unstoppable force and totally aspirational. As Chairman of Housing he felt he culd make a a difference and he did just that earning respect of everyone he met.
“He was particularly passionate about helping the homelss, people with health problems and he took everything in his stride. He was fair, flexible and somebody who people could speak to with their problems in confidentiality. Richard was a beacon of how thye job of councillor should be done and we have lost a dear friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
Supporting the Council motion of condolene, Councillor Brian Spencer added: “Our deepest sympthy go to his family and friends. Richard was always very approachable and a well liked and compassionate. He was one of the nicest politicians and a nice man.”
Following the civic service Councillor Ward’s funeral was held at St. Aidan’s Church, Billinge followed by cremation at St.Helens Crematorium.
