Life on the streets
A group of young people from across St Helens brought the streets to the stage with Street Life, a performing arts showcase at the Citadel Arts Centre on Friday.
The show was developed through 'Prostep', a creative arts programme for young people aged 16-19 as part of Liverpool City Region's Find Your Talent programme.
Street Life was devised, performed, and produced by the group's own event management company, MDM Productions (Merseyside Dance & Music). Working with experts from the creative arts industry the young people have been encouraged to develop their business and performance skills. They have been involved in every aspect of the project from concept to completion.
The evening featured contemporary and street dance, and a varied music programme including country, rock, indie, punk, metal and electro pop. MC Smithy Pee, MC DT, Aaron, JJ & Shaun, Xeon, B.O.W, Shaun & Bam were among those taking to the stage. There was also a short presentation outlining the group's achievements.
The free event had the backing of Cancer Research UK and fundraising activities will took place, including a raffle supported by donations from local businesses.
Prostep is a bespoke and intensive twelve-week course tailored to the individual needs and interests of young people not in education or employment (NEET), recruited from Parr, Clock Face, Thatto Heath and Sutton areas of St Helens.
Fay Lamb, Chief Executive of The Citadel says: "The young people involved in the pro step project have worked very hard over the past twelve weeks and have proved their dedication, commitment and talent. Street life was a great opportunity for them to showcase their talents and I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved."
