Dog warden service
Next update is: 08 September 2010
The aim of the The Dog Wardens is to provide regular patrols throughout St.Helens and respond to complaints about:
- Dangerous dogs
- Stray dogs
- Dog fouling
The Council also promotes responsible dog ownership. As part of this we offer a microchiiping service.
The introduction of the microchip in the late 1980s has become a technological breakthrough for the animal industry.
Farmers and animal owners alike have seen the benefit of their stock all carrying a unique identification number, reducing the numbers of stock theft.
Many animals, such as cats, dogs, birds and exotic pets like snakes and lizards can all be successfully implanted with a microchip.
The microchip itself is approximately the size of a grain of rice and has a non sequential and unique number, which corresponds to any information given at the time it was implanted. The microchip cannot fall off or be removed and therefore provides a safe and permanent means of identification.
The process of implantation takes less than a minute and the paperwork required to collate the owner's details can be completed in 5 minutes. The information is stored on a central database and can only be accessed by authorised bodies.
Owners can have peace of mind knowing that if the unthinkable happens and their animal is lost or, worse still, stolen it can be scanned by a Vet, Local Authority Warden, the RSPCA or a Rescue Society and identified. The owner can then be quickly contacted and reunited with their pet.
Please remember that it is still a legal requirement to ensure that your dog is waering a tag attached to the collar displaying the owner's name and address.
Call the Dog Warden Service on 01744 676338 to have your dog microchipped in the comfort of your own home for a reduced fee.
